Westwood Walk will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017. (This is a schedule change due to the weather.) Our goal is to raise over $13,000 to support the programs and events that PTO will fund this year. The Walk is the primary PTO fundraiser for the year — in return for the awesome support we get, we don’t ask the students (which is to say, the parents!) to sell anything all year, and we don’t nickel-and-dime you by collecting classroom party fees.
In the weeks leading up to the Westwood Walk, we’ll send home an envelope and donation tracking sheet. Students raise donations from family and friends — it works best if it’s a flat donation, not per lap. If every student raises $35, we’ll make our goal.
Students “practice” for the event with a fun physical education unit on walking and voluntary walks at recess. At the recess walks we’ll be handing out collectible tokens when students walk laps — we want them to be excited to participate each day!
At the Walk on Friday, September 15, students take laps around the school property while music plays. Our volunteers paint faces, hand out healthy apple snacks, run a water station, and cheer the students along. Parents are encouraged to walk too, so we hope you’ll join us! In addition, you can sign up to volunteer here:
We are excited for a big change this year: the Walk will take place only in the morning with two grades walking together at once. This will hopefully enable parents to volunteer and walk with all of their children, add some fun energy with larger walking groups, and let us all beat the heat! The times are:
4th and 2nd grade: 8:50 a.m. ** This is a slight time change**
1st and Kindergarten: 9:45 a.m.
3rd and 5th grade: 10:30 a.m.
During the Walk we’ll be drawing names for participation prizes randomly — all students walk and are eligible to win. The classes engage in a friendly donation-raising competition, vying to be among the top three that earn classroom parties sponsored by PTO. In addition, we’ll have special prize drawings for students who raise $75+, and one grand prize awarded to the student who raises the most money. We accept donations until 8:30 am on Friday, September 15 for prizes.
