2020 Update: Unfortunately due to the COVID pandemic, our annual Westwood Walk fundraiser will be replaced this year by other safe and friendly “fun”draisers. Stay tuned for info coming soon about our Harvest Buddies Mum Sale!
Time to lace up those sneakers! The 11th Annual Westwood Walk will be held on Thursday, September 26th, 2019 (rain date Tuesday, October 1st). This year we’ll be celebrating the 60th anniversary of Westwood Elementary! The Walk is the primary PTO fundraiser for the year – in return for the awesome support we get, we don’t ask the students (which is to say, the parents!) to sell anything all year, and we don’t nickel-and-dime you by collecting classroom party fees or membership fees.
The schedule for the day of the walk is as follows:
*8:55-9:45am grades 4 & 5
*9:55-10:45am grades 2 & 3
*10:55-11:45am grades K & 1
By Friday, September 6th, each student should have brought home a packet which includes a collection envelope and donation tracking sheet. Students raise donations from family and friends – it works best if it’s a flat donation, not per lap. In case your child has misplaced their packet in the bottomless pit that book bags can be, you’ll find the WW Walk flier, donation sheet, and tax receipt forms all linked below.
Students “practice” for the event with a fun physical education unit on walking and voluntary walks at recess in the days ahead, September 23-25. Students who participate in recess walks will receive a lanyard and beads per lap walked. After a few days and several laps, they can have quite a fun collection to show off their hard work.
At The Walk on September 26th, students take laps around the school property while music plays. Our volunteers paint faces, hand out healthy snacks (thanks to Patterson Fruit Farm!), run a water station, and cheer the students along. Parents and younger siblings are encouraged to walk too, so we hope you’ll join us! Many parents walk with their children, and then take a volunteer shift before or after to help.
During The Walk we’ll be drawing names for participation prizes randomly – all students walk and are eligible to win. The classes engage in a friendly donation-raising competition, vying to be among the top three that earn classroom parties sponsored by PTO. In addition, we’ll have special prize drawings for students who raise $75+, and one grand prize awarded to the student who raises the most money.
If you wish to walk laps with your child, just show up on the day of The Walk at the designated class time. But if you’d like to join in the fun by volunteering your time and talents, then head to our SignUp Genius form! Thanks for all you do!
