The 10th Annual Westwood Walk will be held on Thursday, September 27 (rain date is Friday Sept 28). Our goal is to raise over $13,000 to support the programs and events that PTO will fund this year. The Walk is the primary PTO fundraiser for the year — in return for the awesome support we get, we don’t ask the students (which is to say, the parents!) to sell anything all year, and we don’t nickel-and-dime you by collecting classroom party fees or membership fees.
In the weeks leading up to the Westwood Walk, we’ll send home an envelope and donation tracking sheet. Students raise donations from family and friends — it works best if it’s a flat donation, not per lap. If every student raises $35, we’ll make our goal.
Students “practice” for the event with a fun physical education unit on walking and voluntary walks at recess. At the recess walks we’ll be handing out collectible tokens when students walk laps — we want them to be excited to participate each day!
At the Walk on Thursday, September 27, students take laps around the school property while music plays. Our volunteers paint faces, hand out healthy apple snacks, run a water station, and cheer the students along. Parents and younger siblings are encouraged to walk too, so we hope you’ll join us! Many parents walk with their children, and then take a volunteer shift before or after to help. Here is the SignUp Genius with all the available shifts and spots:
2nd and 4th Grade – 9-9:50 a.m.
1st and 5th Grade – 10-10:50 a.m.
Kindergarten and 3rd Grade – 11-11:50 a.m.
During the Walk we’ll be drawing names for participation prizes randomly — all students walk and are eligible to win. The classes engage in a friendly donation-raising competition, vying to be among the top three that earn classroom parties sponsored by PTO. In addition, we’ll have special prize drawings for students who raise $75+, and one grand prize awarded to the student who raises the most money. In order to count toward these incentives, all donations need to be turned in by 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 27.
